September 2019 optometry industry data showed total active optometry jobs remaining virtually flat (10,572 vs. 10,674 in August 2019) and a significant decrease in new optometry jobs added (5,303 vs. 8,275). Of those new jobs, the majority were for Opticians and Optometrists. Walmart held on to its top spot among hiring companies with 3,856 opportunities.

Total optometry job seekers on iHireOptometry went up slightly to 77,123 with Optical Assistant/Optical Office Staff, Optician, and Optometrist as the top 3 most popular career titles. Average membership length held steady as well at ~4 years.
