Receiving Chemist I

2nd shift Chemist position. 3PM - 11:30PM $20.00 and hour with Shift Differential
We are looking for a candidate that has some lab type experience or a degree preferably related to environmental or chemical industry.
Summary:The Receiving Chemist I is responsible for Lab Pack coding and processing, drum receiving and coding, and shipping of waste materials. This role verifies counts and container sizes for incoming loads, performs initial sampling to confirm material acceptance, and applies barcodes for accurate tracking.
Key Responsibilities:Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure full compliance with 49 CFR, 40 CFR, and facility-specific permits.
Lab Pack Coding/Processing:
Receive and properly code lab pack containers for disposal.
Perform consolidation/repacking, bulking, and reactive materials handling.
Complete associated documentation using Clean Harbors proprietary systems.
Drum Receiving/Coding:
Sample and analyze incoming drums.
Calibrate and use lab instruments.
Complete QA/QC documentation and investigate discrepancies.
Assign appropriate disposal profiles and barcodes.
Waste Management & Routing:
Manage analytical waste.
Ensure accurate routing and billing using the WIN system.
Apply CHES barcodes to drums and samples.
Shipping Coordination:
Oversee shipment of drums and bulk waste materials.
Collaborate with logistics to optimize shipment routing and cost.
Ensure compliance with DOT and Clean Harbors protocols.
Inventory and Logistics:
Support Just in Time inventory practices.
Coordinate with operations to label, stage, and prepare outbound loads.
Verify material receipt against documentation.
Training & Safety:
Maintain a safe work environment in accordance with OSHA and company policies.
Mentor and train Receiving Technicians and Chemist I staff.
Waste Analysis and Sample Collection:
Conduct sampling per the facility Waste Analysis Plan (WAP).
Document results and forward samples for further testing as needed.
Additional Duties:
Perform other tasks as assigned by management to support Clean Harbors operations.
Qualifications:Education:
Associate degree or two years of college in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related field required.
Experience:
03 years in a similar role.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Certifications:
24-Hour OSHA Training
Forklift Certification
RCRA/DOT Training
Skills & Competencies:Team-oriented with the ability to take direction
Strong math, chemistry, and chemical testing knowledge
Detail-oriented with strong organizational and communication skills
Proficient in Windows-based applications
Experience in Lab Pack, Shipping, or Receiving preferred
Must demonstrate knowledge in at least two of the following:
Lab Pack Coding/Processing
Drum Receiving/Coding
Shipping of Waste Materials
Physical Requirements:Medium work: lift up to 50 lbs; frequent lifting of 25 lbs.
Frequent standing, walking, bending, climbing, reaching, squatting.
Must be able to perform tasks involving physical exertion such as climbing forklifts/ladders, and lifting materials from the ground to waist level.
Requires corrected or uncorrected 20/20 vision and good depth perception.
Must be able to complete basic physical assessments (e.g., pushups, sit-ups, squats).
Hearing:
Must be able to communicate via telephone and distinguish speech or alarms in a work environment.
Travel:Less than 10%
