Electrician Apprentice

The Electrical Apprentice position is an entry level position for candidates that are interested in joining our electrical maintenance team and are currently pursuing a EET or Mechatronics degree from an accredited institution.

Principle Activities:

  • Work and study in a classroom, lab, as well as on the production floor as required to acquire the necessary skills to advance into a Electrician or Controls Tech position based on Apprentice Matrix associated with role.
  • Work with assigned mentor to Troubleshoot equipment via PLC, HMI, schematics, and other resources to identify and repair mechanical, electrical, hardware and software issues.
  • Under guidance of Mentor learn to diagnose, analyze, and repair electro-mechanical and instrumentation equipment using meters, gauges and other testing methods.
  • Apply knowledge in electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic devices and principles to install, repair, and/or replace defective equipment.
  • Complete tasks and projects assigned by mentor and manager in a safe and timely manner.
  • Prepares work areas to ensure tools needed are available and in proper working order.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving equipment problems while demonstrating proactive maintenance concepts and employees' best practices.
  • Complete/perform PM assignments and documentation as scheduled and assigned
  • Effectively communicate with Team Leaders and Supervisors regarding safety/quality/production concerns.
  • Maintains good housekeeping.
  • Be cooperative with co-workers in order to maintain a good working environment.
  • Understand, observe, and follow all EHS safety requirements.

Job Requirements:

  • High School Diploma
  • Currently enrolled in or completed 2 year program in one of the following areas:
    • EET (Electrical Engineering Technology)
    • Mechatronics

  • Employee must be in good standings with the company, meaning no written counseling/disciplinary actions within the past 6 months. Counseling/disciplinary action greater than 6 months will be reviewed and could be considered based on severity.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Computer Skills

Basic computer skills. Interface with computers including controls systems, MES, and SAP.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Possess or working toward AA Degree in EET or Mechatronics

Physical Demands

Physical ability to perform the essential job functions of the position, which includes climbing stairs, navigating catwalks, working at heights up to 30 feet above the ground, lifting up to 50 pounds (from floor to shoulder height), stooping, and bending, carrying up to 50 pounds at least 40 feet.

Exposure to noise, dirt, grease, water and sawdust is common. Must be able to work at heights up to 130 ft above ground. Must be able to work for non-extended periods at temperatures of 110 to 120 degrees F.
