Job Description
Summary:Provides medical nutrition therapy that is integrated and consistent with patient medical goals which includes nutrition assessment, nutrition diagnosis, developing and implementing nutrition interventions, nutrition education and monitoring and evaluating patient progress. Population served may include neonates, pediatrics, adults and geriatrics. Uses prescriptive authority granted by the Medical staff.

QualificationsOther information:*Masters Degree required or Bachelors with 2 years of additional experience in lieu of Masters degree.*16 months experience in-patient setting if opting for PHS adult parenteral nutrition support competency*Licensed Dietitian-NM Reg & License (LD-NM RL)*Registered Dietitian (RD)*MUST HAVE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING: Certifications in CDE (Certified Diabetes Educator), CNSC (Certified Nutrition Support Clinician)or CSP (Certified Specialist in Pediatrics), Medical/Nutritional Informatics or Quality Informatics certificationor*Successful completion of PHS competency in adult parenteral nutrition support. *Privileging through medical staff required.

ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities:*Provides medical nutrition therapy in accordance with national and international research- based practices, departmental policies, guidelines and procedures.*Conducts nutrition-focused physical exam when assessing patient and determining treatment.*Provides nutrition counseling based on individual needs, evaluates patient/family knowledge and readiness to learn using effective interview methods*Communicates and influences treatment interventions determined by the medical team through interdisciplinary meetings, rounds, conferences, physician referral, etc.*Participates in the orientation and serves as preceptor/trainer of students and new dietitians. *Provides leadership in clinical excellence and quality improvement in area of expertise or certification.*With demonstrated competency, may manage parenteral nutrition orders.*Performs other functions as required.
