Job Description


The Mental Health Therapist works within the interdisciplinary team to provide both mental health and addiction counseling. The basic functions of the Licensed Clinical Therapist are to provide assessments, treatments, psychotherapy, case management, and referrals to a broad range of clients, including those which are severely mentally ill and those dealing with adjustment issues. Individual, couples, family, and group therapy are available forms of treatment provided by Licensed Clinical Therapists. Clients can range in age from young children to the elderly. This position is responsible for assessing issues, determining appropriate types and methods of treatment interventions, and implementing intervention methodologies.

TELEHEALTH- Clients may opt to have services provided via a live videoconference to adult/child/adolescent populations using a HIPAA Compliant Platform similar to outpatient psychiatry. All staff are required to take an online telehealth training program if providing telehealth services. The telehealth program must meet all requirements to ensure that each clinician understands when virtual care is appropriate and when a client is best served with in-person care. Clinicians must demonstrate how to effectively communicate with virtual clients, be able to evaluate signs and symptoms for a client virtually and be able to use best practices when delivering virtual care.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Assess clients’ needs and level of functioning including a bio psychosocial assessment of all clients referred to the case load.
  • Provide crisis counseling to children/families as necessary.
  • Write safety, behavioral, and treatment plans.
  • Schedule and coordinate therapy sessions.
  • Provide clinical interventions for teachers, parents, and other caregivers to generalize skills in other environments.
  • Meet with clients for individual, group and/or family therapy sessions.
  • Provide collateral parties with information to best meet the client’s needs as necessary.
  • Assess, determine and make a referral when special services or care are needed for a child (i.e. medication evaluation, psychiatric hospitalization, in-home services or psychological testing, etc.)
  • Write daily/weekly progress notes for each therapy session and mental health service.
  • Complete appropriate mental health documentation, including but not limited to, client plans performance outcomes, progress reports, health questionnaires, and termination reports as required.
  • Continuously review charts for new and/or relevant information concerning clients.
  • Prepare and maintain charts in accordance with audit requirements.
  • Perform Utilization Reviews as assigned.
  • Provide clinical documentation and assure that all filing of clinical information and submission of billing information is done accurately and within the time frame required.
  • Maintain compliance with all federal and state regulations and standards, including COMAR regulations.
  • Attend weekly supervision with the Clinical Director.
  • Attend Group Supervision/Team Meetings monthly.

Minimum/Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science or Arts in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or an acceptable related field required, with a master’s degree preferred. (e.g., LGPC, LMSW, LCPC, LCSW-C).
  • Must be a self-starter and can manage staff and give directions to others and work under pressure in certain cases.
  • More than two years’ experience working with individuals with trauma, addiction and other clinical diagnoses.
  • Familiarity with multicultural groups, previous work experience in a multicultural setting and willingness to enroll language and multicultural coursework to supplement training if necessary.
  • Fingerprint clearance, and pass drug test, physical exam, and clear TB test

Preferred Skills:

  • Combination of comparable skills, experience, and education
  • Experience working in urban environment or with gender-responsive care preferred.
  • Understanding and supportive of a trauma-informed system of care
  • Experience with trauma-informed services, cognitive behavioral therapies including DBT, and motivational therapies including the use of incentives preferred.
  • Personal recovery experience not required, however, knowledge of recovery support systems and 12-Step programs preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and engagement skills
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong computer skills required.
