Description

JOB SUMMARY: An Adolescent Psychiatrist specializes in diagnosing, treating, and preventing mental health disorders in adolescents (typically ages 1218). They work with patients experiencing emotional, behavioral, and developmental challenges, using therapy, medication management, and other treatment methods to promote mental well-being.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct psychiatric evaluations, including medical and psychological assessments, to diagnose mental health disorders in adolescents.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans, incorporating therapy, medication, and lifestyle recommendations.
  • Prescribe and monitor psychiatric medications, ensuring proper dosage and effectiveness.
  • Provide psychotherapy and counseling to adolescents and their families, addressing issues such as depression, anxiety, trauma, and substance abuse.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including psychologists, social workers, teachers, and family members, to support patient treatment.
  • Educate patients and families about mental health conditions, coping strategies, and treatment options.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential medical records in compliance with legal and ethical standards.
  • Stay updated on advancements in adolescent psychiatry through research, continuing education, and professional development.

Qualifications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong knowledge of healthcare regulations, compliance issues, and quality improvement methodologies.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire staff at all levels.
  • Experience with community health initiatives and understanding of social determinants of health.
  • Ability to build trust with adolescents and their families.
  • Expertise in diagnosing and treating psychiatric disorders.
  • Experience with therapy techniques, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT).
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus.

SUPERVISED BY: Hired, supervised and evaluated by the Medical Director.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of an accredited Psychiatry residency program.
  • Board certification or eligibility in Psychiatry.
  • Licensures/Certifications Valid medical license to practice in Indiana.
  • DEA registration for prescribing controlled substances.
  • May involve telepsychiatry or remote consultations.
  • Potential for on-call duties in emergency situations.
  • Experience - A minimum of 1 year of experience in outpatient, inpatient, or community mental health settings preferred.
  • Other- Must possess a valid drivers license and active auto insurance.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Occasional standing, walking, lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing and pulling.
  • Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds.
