SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for guiding engineering department activities to design new products, modify existing designs, improve production techniques, and develop test procedures.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
This individual has the responsibility and authority to carry out assigned tasks.
- Write and submit FAA documentation, filing, and perform annual program documentation review for FAA rules & regulation alignment.
- Guides department activities to design new products, modify existing designs, improve production techniques, and develop test procedures.
- Prepares engineering specifications and qualification plans for new product development efforts.
- Supports the team to ensure the company maintains a technical competitive advantage.
- Ensure designs follow sound engineering practices to meet performance, reliability, cost and quality goals.
- Directs the work performed by the team to assure quality, timeliness and within budget restrictions.
- Follows and refines the company product development process, conducts design reviews and interface with other engineers and departments to ensure an efficient transfer from design to production.
- Resolves problems using solutions that involve new techniques, technologies, or concepts.
- Creates, follows and improves applicable processes.
- Provides support for marketing, sales application engineering and development activities.
- Advises management of new developments which may affect profit, schedule, costs, customer relations, and/or inter-departmental relations.
- Maintains awareness of current technology capabilities to allow effective utilization during development of design engineering processes and programs.
- Trains new and current engineering personnel and operators on new techniques and technology to be proficient with their works and skills.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Directs the work performed by the team to assure quality, timeliness and within budget restrictions. May perform some of the Engineering Manager’s supervisory duties in that person’s absence.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have extensive experience with FAA processes, requirement, documentation and submittal.
- Experience with architecture and design of complex electronic hardware design and documentation of new products such as low-voltage power supply and complex controllers is mandatory.
- Experience with LED lighting design is required.
- Must demonstrate familiarity with aerospace certification requirements such as RTCA/DO-160.
- Experience with real-time and embedded applications is necessary.
- Demonstrate strong leadership and communication skills.
- AutoCAD or similar CAD exposure is needed.
- Must be proficient with the entire Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience in high reliability aerospace electronics environment desirable.
- Custom manufacturing industry exposure is a plus.
- Familiarity with mechanical systems related to electronic device industry is desirable.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor of Science (BS) degree or advanced degree in electrical engineering from a four-year college or university.
- Minimum seven years' related experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must be proficient in reading, speaking, and writing in English.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Must have a solid foundation in mathematics such as is required by engineering degrees.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Position may require a driver's license.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to lift a maximum of 50 lbs. without harming oneself. This position requires bending, stooping, lifting, pulling, reaching, kneeling, standing and sitting for periods of time.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Machine shop / light manufacturing environment. The noise is usually quiet to moderate.
