Summer Program Director Description & Requirements
Independent Contractor or Paid Internship
Salary: $25 an hour
Up to: 10 hours per week for two weeks before opening of BT Summer Program
40 hours per program week (5/28-6/1, 6/11-6/15, 6/25-6/29, 7/9-7/13, 7/23-7/28)
15 hours per week between program weeks and after final program week
Program Description
Each summer, the Blue Theology Mission Station in Pacific Grove, California, welcomes groups from throughout the nation to visit our Monterey Bay Mission Station for a one to five-day residential camp experience focused on faith-based stewardship of the ocean, its inhabitants, and resources.
The Blue Theology Program Director works with attending group participants to build community, encourage participation and motivate a lasting love for God’s marine creation. The coordinator embodies the Blue Theology spirit, by working within our established BTMS design, and adding their style to implement and evaluate the Blue Theology program.
We are a progressive Christian congregation that for the past fifteen years has invited hundreds of teens and adults to learn and practice how faith informs and encourages the way we care for all of God's creation, especially the ocean.
Responsibilities of the Blue Theology
Summer Program Director
• Attend Blue Theology Task Force meetings.
• Read and get to know the Blue Theology web site and program Materials.
• Be present on site at least two weeks before the summer program begins to meet with pastor, administrative assistant, volunteers, and make group contacts.
• Coordinate daily and weekly summer program activities.
• Maintain relationships with local marine organizations,
such as the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Kayak Connections, Pacific Grove Museum
of Natural History/LIMPETS Program, etc.
• Update registration forms, insurance coverage, and deposits.
• Maintain Blue Theology Mission Station online presence, including our website.
• Work with pastor and volunteers to establish a spiritually enriching experience.
• Communicate with attending groups––before, during, after visits.
• Host the summer program sessions – includes weekends during program weeks.
• Maintain contact with volunteer leaders and update curriculum as needed.
• Set up and restock dorm spaces, dining area, kitchen between program weeks.
• Assure participants complete evaluations at the end of their stays.
• Maintain and organize documentation for each visit.
• Procure and track program supplies.
Qualifications
• Experience coordinating youth programs, working with teens in outdoor settings.
• Works well with teams.
• Strong leadership and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent organizational, communication, computer, and written skills.
• Certified in first aid and CPR
• Pass TB test and background check.
Physical Abilities
• Able to lift 30 pounds. • Walk 3–4 miles. • Stand for 1–2 hours.
