Job Description


The Mechanic is responsible for performing varied semi-skilled mechanical work in the repair and maintenance of buildings and physical plants and perform light construction and routine general repair work throughout the zoo.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs inspections, preventive maintenance, lubrication, and repairs on machinery such as pumps, boilers, air conditioning units, meters, air compressors, backhoes, incinerators, plumbing, trucks, and tractors.
  • Daily use of hand tools and special equipment such as welding torches to test, repair, and maintain buildings’ physical plants and equipment.
  • Performs light construction duties such as carpentry, painting, and minor electrical and plumbing work as a helper.
  • Reports on unsafe conditions and unsafe equipment.
  • Keeps records of maintenance and repair work performed.
  • Welds joints and pipes.
  • Assists with special events to ensure all events are a success.
  • Maintains the appropriate use of equipment and PPE.
  • Contributes to saving animals in the wild through: reduction of waste, water and energy use and inspiring guests and staff to take wildlife protection actions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Education and Experience

  • High School / G.E.D. diploma
  • Two (2) years of education or training specific to mechanical duties.
  • Some proficiency in all trades, including electrical wiring, masonry, finish carpentry and painting experience.
  • Maintain a valid Texas driver’s license and comply with policy on driving
